Cultural Resource Assessment Field Standards

This project provides a thorough review of the environment, physical setting, cultural history, previous archaeological investigations, and known standing structure and archaeological sites within a project area. This review often provides an assessment of the state of knowledge about cultural resources in the project area, and may develop a research design to guide future investigations. Visual inspection of the project area to aid in the description of the physical environment, land use patterns, and potential for cultural resources is appropriate. If any field work to identify new sites or relocate previously recorded sites is undertaken, the project should be approached as a Phase I project and reported on accordingly.
