Louisiana State Arts Council

The Louisiana State Arts Council (LSAC) is a volunteer body appointed by the Governor. The LSAC meets quarterly to address arts related issues of importance to the state as well as having the authority to approve all grant awards made by the Louisiana Division of the Arts. The next council meeting will take place on Friday April 27, 2012 at 10:00 AM (agenda) at the Capital Park Welcome Center, 702 N. River Road in Baton Rouge.

Standing Committee Structure

• Executive Committee: Composed of the Council's officers (Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary, Parliamentarian) and three at-large members; provides general oversight and direction for Council activities; reviews staff recommendations on grants before passing them on for approval to the full Council.

• Advocacy Committee: Open to any and all Council members; plans and implements advocacy efforts on behalf of the Division to the Governor, Lt. Governor, Secretary of Culture, Recreation & Tourism and Louisiana State Legislature; helps coordinate Council advocacy efforts with those of the Louisiana Partnership for the Arts; puts forward recommendations to the full Council relative to advocacy efforts.

• Policy Committee: Open to any and all Council members; reviews Division grants policies and operational (long-range) plans; reviews Council by-laws; puts forward to the full Council recommendations relative to Division and Council policies.

• Special Events Committee: Open to any and all Council members; plans and coordinates annual Governor's Arts Awards nomination and selection process and ceremony; plans and coordinates other special events and activities on behalf of the Council.
